Knowing what works

Color Us Beautiful

By April and Jessi

Some of TGF's prettiest readers have agreed to share with us their favorite style, beauty and "how-to" tips. This week features ideas from April, who has a Pictorial here, and from the lovely Jessi

April's Color

I learned a simple beauty trick from a friend years after I became a dedicated CD.

A lady I was dating had a bridal salon and I asked her about making me a very nice formal outfit. The first thing she asked me was what's mybest color. When she saw I really had no idea she asked, "which color clothes do you get the most compliments on when you're dressed as a guy?" For me this is blue as I'm fair skinned with blue eyes.

From that point on everything became a lot easier. I worked blue into my wardrobe and now whenever I do a really vulgar splurge of money on a nice ladies frock or some other feminine outfit, I always try to make it something in blue.

I recommend knowing your best color.

Jessi Recommends a Pro

I think the best tip I can give anyone is to have a professional do your makeup at least once ... It's amazing how much you can learn from one session if you'll just ask questions. I've had my makeup done by several different "makeup artists", some I've agreed with while others I thought made me look far too "made up".

The one thing they all shared in common though is that through each, I learned what I like, and what I don't. I've learned the proper way to put on Blush so that it looks natural, and how to bring out my best features without looking overly done.

The trick with Blush is first to blow on the brush after you've swirled it in your blush compact, then start closest to your ear and brush forward - This way if there is an over abundance of powder on the brush, it will be less noticeable closer to your ear, rather than right in the center of your face. I usually don't worry about using two different shades, as I really like as natural a look as possible.

If you're going to play up one feature, then make the other features a bit subdued, then the highlighted feature will really shine. It also helps to have your colors done. This way everything is in balance to your basic coloring. If this isn't possible, a book that does seem to help quite a bit is "Color Me Beautiful" by Carol Jackson. It not only touches on makeup colors, but those of your clothes as well ... in other words, the total picture.
