Most stories about television performers tend to
focus on their absurdly generous salaries, seemingly endless success and
sky-high ratings. But what about the reverse side?
Leah Remini has been there. She has often placed her hopes for fame and
security on a TV series, only to be devastated when the rating gods turned
their thumbs down.
"You have to steel yourself when you get one of these jobs. You don't
want to get close to people and then get canceled. I'm hoping -- again --
that this is the one that goes for a couple of years," she says of "Fired
Up," the sitcom that NBC tried out last winter, getting favorable ratings.
Returning for the fall season in NBC's all-female comedy lineup on
Monday nights, "Fired Up" has a warm, cozy spot between "Suddenly Susan"
and "Caroline in the City."
In "Fired Up," Miss Remini co-stars with Sharon Lawrence (the district
attorney and wife of Dennis Franz on "NYPD Blue"). Miss Lawrence's
self-obsessed character had been Miss Remini's boss until both are fired
from their jobs. They become equal partners in a new business, and
roommates through financial necessity.
The show also features an oversexed brother using the apartment, and a
nightclub owner with a transvestite son.
The character will be a female impersonator named Ashley, played
by Marc Davis.
