Changes At IFGE
Young and Old Exchange Roles
Waltham, Mass. -- October 9,1997
The International Foundation for Gender Education (IFGE) announced the resignation of Alison Laing as Executive Director of IFGE and the appointment of Nancy Nangeroni to that position. According to an announcement from IFGE made at the Southern Comfort Conference in Atlanta, Laing will continue to work for IFGE as a part-time volunteer and will hold the title of Executive Director Emeritus. In addition, Laing will serve as the Secretary of the Board of IFGE, a position most recently held by Nangeroni. Nangeroni will take over the reigns effective November 1, 1997.
Laing said she had to step down as Executive Director because her personal life had become more complicated with personal and family obligations crowding her time for IFGE even though she recently moved to Rhode Island from Pennsylvania. Said Alison of her continued involvement with IFGE, "I am not leaving IFGE, but freeing myself of much of the management and administrative effort in order to pursue my personal and intense interest in community building, outreach and education at all levels including the main stream churches. I also expect to still address fund raising and cost reductions issues."
Nangeroni has been on the IFGE Board of Directors for 4 years most recently as Secretary and a member of the Executive Committee. She has been an active supporter of IFGE and other transgender organizations for the last decade. Nancy is well known for her Radio Show Gender Talk which is broadcast in the Boston area and on the WorldWide Web. She is also known for her efforts in political advocacy activities especially in regard to Hate Crimes inflicted on transgendered persons. She resides in Cambridge Massachusetts.
Chair of the IFGE Board, Linda Buten, said, "We are excited about the changes as we have the best of both worlds, Nancy's youth, energy and hi-tech knowledge and Alison's experience and wisdom. I think IFGE is now in a great position to deal with the many challenges that face us."
