LAWRENCE, Mass. (AP) - A 25-year-old Haverhill man pleaded guilty Monday to second-degree murder in the stabbing death of a transgender he thought was a woman.
Michael Thompson killed Deborah Forte, 56, in Forte's home early on May 15, 1995. He was sentenced to life in prison but will be eligible for parole in 15 years.
Assistant Essex County District Attorney Kathe Tuttman said Thompson thought he had picked up a woman until the two returned to the victim's apartment, where he discovered Forte was a man.
Ms. Forte was brutally killed May 15th, 1995 after suffering deep stab wounds to her chest, a smashed nose, severe blows to her head, and partial strangulation.
