Sharon Franklin Brown, the resident adviser, was born male with the birthname Frank]in Brown, how ever, she said she had been taking female hormones and dressing as a woman for seven years and wishes to be referred to as a female. ''I'm a pre-op transsexual. I take female hormones. I haven't had the operation but I plan to," Brown told JET.
Brown, 29, says when she tried to switch from a temporary position as a resident adviser to a permanent position, administrators learned of her past when her social security number came back with her birth name.
University officials at the North Carolina-based university couldn't say much as to why Brown was dismissed. "State law precludes our releasing information about current or former employees. We can give information but it's very minimal," Lauren Burgess, associate vice chancellor for university relations at the college, told JET.
Administrators concluded Brown was released due to being unable to satisfy requirements of the job because she lied on her application .
