A CROSSDRESSER is a person who dresses in clothing normally reserved for the opposite gender, and can be either male or female.
There are perhaps several million crossdressers in the United States. It is estimated that 5% of the adult male population crossdresses to some extent.
Most of them are ordinary men who have discovered a feminine aspect to their personalities and have decided to explore their gender gift.
A few women are crossdressers, but because our society is less troubled by the sight of a woman wearing "male" clothing, they are much less numerous than their male counterparts.
Only a small number of crossdressers go out in public dressed in the clothing of their chosen gender. The majority dress in the privacy of their homes, and never reveal themselves to anyone, including their family members, for fear of rejection, ridicule, or worse.
Many Crossdressers attend crossdressing support group meetings. These support groups provide a safe place for crossdressers to dress, meet others like themselves, and to learn more about their gift.
