Welcome to the Internet Client SDK
By Jerry Drain, Internet Client SDK Program Manager

Welcome to the Internet Explorer 4.0 release of the Internet Client SDK (INetSDK; aka Internet Explorer 4.0 Author's toolkit). This development kit brings you the latest in Web application development (both content development and software development) based on Internet Explorer 4.0 technology.

Requirements
To download and use the Internet Client SDK, you need the following:

  • The Internet Explorer 4.0 (final release).
  • Windows NT« 4.0 or Windows« 95.

Also keep in mind the following:

  • If you are building applications, the API level samples have only been tested only with Visual C++« 5.0.
  • This release supports only the Intel processor.
  • Web Authors and ISVs, please sure to read the Readme.txt file after installing the SDK. It has the latest breaking information and last-minute problems.

Installing the SDK
Don't install the entire SDK. The SDK is designed for different audiances, generally Web Authors or ISVs. It's rare that you would need all of the SDK to meet your specific needs. Save yourself some disk space, use the download page to be selective about what you download. You can always come back to the CD (or web site) to add to your download or upgrade it. The new components should integrate nicely when you do this.

You'll find that one set of documentation may lead into another. If you have not installed that set of documentation, you will get a page that invites you to the download site. When you download this new section of documentation, this page will be replaced with the documentation you downloaded, and all links resolved. In the very short term, this CD is probably a better place to return for documentation than the web site. The web site at http://www.microsoft.com/msdn/sdk/inetsdk/ will be updated with a final release at the end of this month, and will be a better place to update your download from then on.

Known Issue/s

  • If you install the Web Authoring documentation, and want to view the "Show Me" samples represented in the documentation, make sure to install the Web Authoring technology sections as well (the samples are in that selected download).

Problems, Support
If you have problems with the download or the technology found in the SDK, there are some great resources for support. The official Microsoft Technical Support web site for the Internet Client SDK can be found at http://www.microsoft.com/support/inetsdk/. This page has links to Frequently Asked Questions, recent Knowledge Base articles, public Microsoft newsgroups for peer-to-peer support, and instructions for receiving direct one-on-one support with a Microsoft support engineer.

To proceed to the download page, just click the "Next" arrows on the bottom bar... and happy coding!
