Add list items from... |
You can create a list of choices in different ways, most commonly by adding an item at a time manually. However if you already have a list in a document or a spreadsheet, you can import it straight into the list out of Windows Clipboard. Alternatively, you can copy the list of choices from another drop-list field that you have already set up in the database. Finally, you can add a list of users or dealers. When you add items to a list using Add list items from... bear in mind: |

Importing a list from Clipboard
You can import a list by copying it from wherever it is stored and choosing Import from Clipboard from the menu that appears when you click the Add list items from... button. For a list to import correctly you must have one item per line and only one column of information. For example: Circle Square Rectangle Triangle Hexagon You can copy lists from Excel, Word, Access, Notepad, and many other Windows applications. If you see strange symbols or unwanted spacing in the items that appear after importing, try pasting your list into Windows Notepad and removing the unwanted bits first. |

Copying from another drop-list field
If you have already created a list for another field you can copy it into another field by choosing Copy from another field from the menu that appears when you click the Add list items from... button. The field that you copy from can be a different type (eg. you can copy from a Company field into a Contact field). If you subsequently add new items to one list and you want to reflect the additions in another list, use the Copy from another field option again and it will only add the missing items as duplicates are discarded automatically. |

Adding a list of Users or Dealers
You might want to set a field to display a list of Users or Dealers, for example to show who on the system is managing a particular client. Choose List all Users or List all Dealers from the menu that appears when you click the Add list items from... button. If you subsequently add more users or dealers, the list does not update automatically. To reflect the additions, use the List all Users / List all Dealers option again and it will only add the missing items as duplicates are discarded automatically. |
