There are two distinct ways to dial out with a modem:

Using Windows Telephony (TAPI)
If your modem is compatible with Windows Telephony it will appear in the Via drop-list. If your modem is not listed, visit the manufacturer's website and see if you can locate an up-to-date Windows driver for your modem or for information on obtaining a TAPI driver for your modem. If there is none, you can use our alternate method. |

Note To use Windows Telephony, your phone must be plugged into your modem and not into the wall socket. Only the modem should be in the wall socket.

Using direct access to the modem
If your modem is not compatible with Windows Telephony or your hardware has forced you to plug both the phone and the modem into the wall socket (such as noise interference if the phone is plugged into the modem) then you can dial out using direct access to the modem.
Note We recommend that you use Windows Telephony rather than direct access to the modem as it is more controllable.
Direct dialling works like this:

The modem dials the number

The modem disconnects, allowing you to talk
You can set the number of seconds (maximum of 9) that you want to give yourself to pick up the handset. Once this time has elapsed, the modem will disconnect and the call will be lost.
