Usually ISPs disconnect users if they are not active for a period of time. This software prevents this from happening by sending periodic signals that will keep your Internet connection active. The program with its FOUR button interface is extremely easy to use and requires no technical configuration ! AC Plug uses the standard windows settings and does (almost) everything else automatic.

On the settings tab, you can enable / disable the autostart function of AC Plug (default is ON) and enable the "Autoconnection" feature (default is OFF). For details on the autoconnection, see the FAQs below.

In the About dialog you find general information about the AC Plug (for example the version number) as well as the new feature "Check for Updates". If you press the button AC Plug starts a browser and takes you to the IOPUS homepage where you can instantly see if updates are available for Ac Plug .

This version of the AC Plug is FREEWARE for private and for commercial use !

Remark: This version of the AC-Plug might not work with every Internet Service Provider on the planet and / or can have some other, yet undiscovered, "bugs". If you run across problems, please let us know ! We especially appreciate your  feedback, whether or not the AC Plug works with *your* internet connection. Our current list is available at http://www.iopus.com/acplug.htm.

Please send any bug-report/suggestion/idea to support@iopus.com or use the feedback form.

Quick Overview

123 Write All Stored Passwords (WASP)

Passwords: WASP displays all stored passwords of the currently logged on user that are hidden in the Microsoft PWL file. It allows the convenient supervision or deletion of this file to improve the security / privacy of your PC (for Win 95, 98, ME only).

123 Password Recovery

Passwords: Windows allows the storage of frequently used passwords. However, since you no longer enter the passwords manually, you tend to forget them. What are you to do when you need to know one of the saved passwords ? The password is staring right at you, but is hiding behind a row of "*****" asterisks. This nifty utility allows you to reclaim your password.

42 AC-Plug

42 Always Connected "Plug": Usually Dial-In Internet provider disconnect users if they are not "actively surfing" for a certain period of time. This software prevents the disconnection from happening. The AC-Plug sends periodic signals that will keep your internet connection active until YOU decide to disconnect.

--- Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) ---

Q: I activated "Auto Connection" on the "Settings" tab but my PC is not autodialing. Why  ?

A: Make sure that you activated the function "Always dial when no connection is present" in the global Internet Explorer ( = Windows !) Internet Settings. To locate this function open the AC Plug, go to the "Settings" tab and press the button "Global Internet settings". Then choose the "Connections" tab and active the function. Remark: If "Never dial a connection" is active, AC Plugwill*NOT* dial a connection since these settings override the AC Plug settings by design.

Q: What is the Windows Scheduler ? How do I use it ?

A: The Microsoft Task Scheduler is an amazingly useful little FREE tool that (in most cases) comes already with your Windows installation. By using Task Scheduler, you can schedule tasks (such as the Iopus BEEE or system tools like the Disk Defragmenter) to run at a time that is most convenient for you. Once set-up. the Task Scheduler starts each time you start Windows, and runs in the background. With Task Scheduler, you can schedule a task to run daily, weekly, monthly, or at certain times (such as system startup). We compiled a detailed installation & usage tips on the Iopus homepage at http://www.iopus.com/guides/winscheduler.htm

Q: Can you recommend any free email accounts  ?

A: Yes, check out our TOP 5 list of free SMTP / POP3 Email accounts at http://www.iopus.com/guides/bestpopsmtp.htm

Q: Does the "AC Plug" transmit any information back to an outside website like some other internet utilities do ?

A: No, of course not ! The AC Plug periodically requests an outside web site to keep your internet connection alive (After all, that is why you are using it in the first place !). Technically this is the same a reading a website with your browser, so no sensitive information is transmitted during this process !

Q: Where can I find more information ?

A: You can find more information on the Iopus homepage, for example:

--- About IOPUS Internet and Security Software ---

IOPUS' field of expertise includes internet-based applications and Windows security. Our software is developed based on the needs and requirements of users like yourself as we always keep a ear open as we scout for new and fresh ideas to incorporate in our product development.

Our main priority and goal is customer satisfaction. We achieve this by listening to our clients and incorporating their requirements into our programs. In fact, more than 50% of the enhancements in our applications come from our clients' feedback.

The other important aspect is also the decision to release our software as shareware thus giving you all the ability to evaluate the applications within a trial period to determine if it meets your needs. We never asked for money first, but rather to provide you with a No-Hidden-Tricks policy. IOPUS Software is a member of the Association of Shareware Professionals (ASP).

The other thing we do for our clients is to provide a fair price, as low as we could possibly go without  breaking our backs and thus we did have to cut back on certain things, such as printed manuals, physical delivery and phone support. But despite those, we do not cut down on technical support as we provide comprehensive help files and email support (we usually reply within a day). We dispense the physical delivery and focus on ESD (Electronic Software Distribution) so as to reduce the cost of the product, especially for our overseas clients  and also the fact that we come out with regular updates which might just make the hard copy outdated by  the time it reaches you.

If you have suggestions or questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at support@iopus.com !

Overview of the files needed for a manual installation:

(You find all these files in the AC Plug home directory after a standard installation.)

Filename

Description

Install where ?

acplug.exe

The "plug" itself  !

Can be installed in any directory

see32.dll

a standard windows file that contains  networking capabilities

Install in the windows system directory, this is typically c:\windows\system on Win 95 / 98 or c:\windows\system32 on Win NT / Win 2000 or the directory as AC Plug

Remark: When you try to locate the "DLL" files, please keep in mind that in most file managers (e. g. the Microsoft Windows Explorer) you need to enable the "display hidden / system files" option (or a similar function) in order to see the "DLL" files. In the MS Explorer this option is located at View > Folder Options > View Tab > Go to the "Hidden Files" option and select "Show all".

These command line parameters are intended for internal use by IOPUS. For a normal operation you should not need them (But we know that some of our users are very creative, so that is why we list them ;-):
