  1. Configuring your browser for MYPANDA.ORG

In order to ensure that your MYPANDA.ORG utility works as it should, you should configure your web browser as follows:

  2. Choosing a username and password

When choosing a username and password, it is important to follow these general rules of thumb, as they will make it difficult for you password to be guessed by a password-cracking program:

    • Do not use any word found in any language dictionary, and do not add a numeric or symbolic prefix or suffix to a dictionary word in order to disguise it.
    • Do not use any word that makes up part of your personal identification, such as your phone number or an ID number.
    • Never write out your password in a file on a computer or on paper.
    • All usernames and passwords must start with a letter.
    • All usernames and passwords should be at least 6 characters in length.
    • Use a mix of upper and lower case characters, numbers, and at least one nonalphabetic symbol (*, #, %, &, etc).
    • Usernames and/or passwords should NOT start with a non-alphanumeric character (*, #, %, &, etc).

Furthermore, when entering your username and password, be sure that the 'CAPS LOCK' button is OFF, as the information is CASE SENSITIVE.

If you cannot remember your username and/or passord, contact WWF, and we will provide you with the information.

  3. Editing your content preferences

This page allows users to change the set up of their personalised MYPANDA.ORG page. For instance, if the user wishes to have more/less news stories presented to them than is currently the case, they should go here and check (or uncheck) the appropriate boxes. Upon pressing the submit button, the user's preferences are altered.

Users can use the edit preferences option as often as they wish.

  4. Using the drop-down boxes to select multiple items within the 'Edit Preferences' area

Users can select multiple items at once within the 'drop down' selection boxes offered within the 'Edit Preferences' page. This can be done in two different ways:

    1. Select one of the options by left-clicking with your mouse. Then, while holding down the 'CTRL' key, click on additional options one at a time. Once you have finished (all choices should be highlighted), move on. When the 'Submit' button is clicked at the end of the form, all of the options will be chosen.

    2. Select one of the options by left-clicking with your mouse. Then, move your mouse so that it travels to an available option below (or above the option chosen). Before clicking on another option, hold down the 'SHIFT' key. This action will select all of the items between the original option and the latter option selected.

NOTE: to deselect any options of those that have been highlighted, simply hold down the 'CTRL' key as you click on them.

    Answers to FAQs

    1. What is the difference between a New User and a Registered User?

The term 'New User' applies to those individuals who have not yet set up their own MYPANDA.ORG page. As a result, 'New Users', upon selecting a username and password, are prompted to register so that they can be identified the next time they visit.

'Registered Users' are those individuals who have already set up a user profile and created their own MYPANDA.ORG web page. When a 'Registered User' visits the MYPANDA.ORG section, they need only enter the appropriate username and password in order to gain entry to their personalised page.

    2. Why don't the videos play when I click on the link within my PANDA.ORG page?

The video clips are meant to 'pop-up' onto the screen within your browser window when the appropriate link is selected. In order to accomplish this task, a javascript has been written. The javascript is meant to work for both Netscape Navigator 2.0 and above, and Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0 and above. However, it is possible that your browser does not support this particular javascript.

    3. What do I do if I can't remember my username and/or password?

In the event that you cannot remember your username and/or your password (and thus cannot gain entry to your personalised MYPANDA.ORG page, email WWF. In the body of your message, be sure to include all of the following information:

      • Your Name (First Name & Last)
      • Your Postcode
      • Your email address

    4. Can I still use MYPANDA.ORG even if I have an older browser?

Yes, you can. However, be aware that MYPANDA.ORG is designed for users with more recent web browsers (Netscape 3.0 or better; Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0 or better), and as such, pages may not appear as attractive as they would otherwise. Moreover, some sections of the MYPANDA.ORG page may not be legible to those with older browsers.

    5. How do I navigate between MYPANDA.ORG and the items that it points to?

In order to return to your MYPANDA.ORG page from an item that you have linked to, use the 'Back' button on your browser.

    6. Do I need to download any plugins or special software to use MYPANDA.ORG?

No plugins or special software is required to view the MYPANDA.ORG page itself. However, some of the items within PANDA.ORG that your page links to may require you to download a plugin in order to view them. For instance, the WWF Video News Releases available via MYPANDA.ORG require the user to have either VDOLive or VivoActive streaming video software. Furthermore, some of the items linked to within the PANDA.ORG web site require the user to install the Flash plugin.

NOTE: Links will open a new browser window.
