Glomma with Rena are by many reconized as Norway's best river for fishing
and not without reason, huge amount of grayling, trout, whitefish, pike etc. lives here.
Myself, I fish from Elverum and north, all the way to Aursunden.
Wading is possible almost everywhere, but I have an eight-footer boat
which I use sometimes, mostly in Rena.
In Glomma you may fish all the year. In Rena it is prohibited from sept.15-may 20.
I wet my lines medio march and keeps them floating until december.
Best period is late june and september. But even november may give good fishing.
Nov. 26 last year I caught 6 grayling on a dryfly within 90 minutes.
License must be bought, and so even one for each county you are gonna fish!
Zone 1: Elverum bridge - Rustad (Elverum county, license from the sportsshops).
Zone 2: Rustad - Steinvik, and Rena river (┼mot county, license at the gas-
stationes og camping-sites in the area)
Zone 3: Steinvik - Barkald (Stor-Elvdal county, license at ╪sterdalen Turistsenter)
Zone 4: Alvdal
Zone 5: Tynset
Zone 6: Tolga
Zone 7: Os
Zone 8: R°ros(S°r-Tr°ndelag)
How to get here
From Oslo by train to Elverum/Rena/Koppang station (R°rosbanen),From Oslo by car: off from E6 at Stange (Rv 2), follow signs to Elverum
and choose side of the river. The westside road is closer to the river
and there is an older road riverside from ╪ksna as well.
Some pools to fish:
Strandfossen. A powerstation is build here, but some fishermen says it's betterfishing here now. This may have something to do with the fact that less
fishing is done in the area. Not many people think it's nice to fish nearby
a powerstation. Beware of a non-fishing area.
╪ksna sund. Known from older days as a good spot, and it still is !.
Indsetfossen and Indsetvika. Variaty and nice areas with trout and grayling.
Rustad/Borregaardsvelta. A typical graylig-area.
N°kkelby/┼sta. One of my favorite-areas. Some deep pools which demands boat.
Steinvik. Nice grayling-riffles
Koppang islands.
Barkald. Nice pools. The fish may be difficult to catch. Due to lots of visits?
etc.
Almost every meter is fishable.
So beat it. Find your paradise.
Holmbo. Long nice pool in Rena with big fish.
The R°d area(from R°d bridge and north). Lots of nice spots.
Deset. Nice pools for trout and grayling.
The hangbridge. Superb current and pool which is well visited. "Pull a ticket"
