This makes filling and pasting in gradation. Same as gradation mask but this is the handier way.
There are two kinds: "Tone" and "Dither".

Here is the sample of filling under the setting above.
The darker the tone filter is, the stronger protection becomes. Therefore, the selected tone filter makes filling color weaker toward the top.
