Instructions for Printing All the support documents can be printed using the Support Materials Viewer/Printer program provided with this disc. When you install the disc, two icons are inserted into a program manager group called 5 A Day Adventures. The one labeled Support Materials is the Viewer/Printer utility. A double click on this icon will start the program. There are two types of documents included with this disc: text documents and graphics documents. There are 66 text documents and 3 graphics documents: the 5 A Day Logo, the Certificate, and the Token Summary Sheet. To print any of the documents, click on its button in the Support Documents Viewer/Printer utility. Your printer may be set up to print directly from the program or to print using the Print Manager. To choose this option: - Double-Click the "Main" Group in Program Manager - Double-Click on "Control Panel" - Double-Click on "Printers" - Highlight the name of the printer your computer is connected to and click "Setup" - Click in the lower left corner of the dialog box to turn the Print Manager on or off. - After making your choice, click on "close" to exit the "Printers" setup program. With Print Manager enabled, you may queue up several files to print at a time. You do not have to wait for a file to finish printing to continue using the program or printing other documents. However, when you do this, the program may appear sluggish until printing is complete. Printing Problems Sometimes your computer may fail to print properly. You may see error messages on the screen that describe the problem. The following suggestions may help: a) Printing on a Dot Matrix Printer The graphics documents (the 5 A Day Logo, the Certificate, and the Token Summary Sheet) are designed to print best on a laser printer. Laser printers can print much finer detail than dot matrix printers. As a result, your printouts may not fit correctly onto one sheet of paper when printing from the SUPPORT MATERIALS VIEWER/PRINTER Program or from the Copy Center in 5 A Day Adventures. If this is the case, the best way to print them is to follow these directions. Getting Ready to Print - Double-Click the "Main" Group in Program Manager - Double-Click on "Control Panel" - Double-Click on "Printers" - Highlight the name of the printer your computer is connected to and click "Setup" - Change the Graphics Resolution to 75 dpi - Change Orientation to Landscape - Click "OK" - Close Printer window and Control Panel Window Follow these steps to print graphics on a dot matrix printer - Open File Manager from Main - Select the CDROM drive (by clicking on the icon that represents your CDROM drive) and the subdirectory \SUPPORT\GRAPHICS - Highlight the file to be printed 5 A Day Logo - 5DAYLOGO.BMP Certificate - CERTIFIC.BMP Token Summary Sheet - TOKENSUM.BMP - Select Print under File - Click "OK" - Click in the "Use Printer Resolution" box, then click on "OK". b) Error Messages With Print Manager enabled, you get the message: "Print Manager cannot print to LPT1. The port settings may not match those required by your printer. Cancel the print job, or choose the Printers option in Control Panel or the Printers Setup command in Print Manager to specify the correct port settings." OR with Print Manager enabled or disabled, you get the message: "The printer on LPT1 is out of paper or is not connected to your computer. Check the printer cable or network connection to make sure the printer is connected, or refresh the paper supply. Then resume the print queue." Solution: Check the following things: 1. Make sure the printer has paper. 2. Make sure the paper tray is fully inserted. 3. Make sure the printer cable is connected securely. After you have checked and corrected these things, click on "Retry" in the error message dialog box. If the message occurs again, click on "Cancel" and consult the printer manual. You may also need to review the procedure for connecting your printer and setting it up to print from Windows. With Print Manager on or off, you get the message: "The printer on LPT1 is offline or is not selected. Make sure the printer is online and then resume the print queue." Solution: This message occurs if the printer is connected but the printer is turned off or is offline. Make sure the printer is turned on and the online light is on. Then click on "Retry". If the error persists, click on "Cancel" and consult your printer manual and setup procedures as indicated above. With Print Manager off, you get the message: "The printer on this port is not responding. Check the printer or increase the Transmission Retry Value in the Printers Connect Dialog Box and then resume the print queue." Solution: Check the following things: 1. 5 A Day Adventures: Instructions for Printing End of document
