Vega county is composed of over 6000 islands. The Majority of people live on the main island Vega. This island has varied and beautiful natural scenery with many good recreational possibilities. For example we have registered 10 different species of orchids and 210 birds species.

On Vega they have found remains of settlements nearly 10 000 years old. A walk along the Cultural Monument Trail is likely to kindle your imagination. The trail is marked and information boards are put up at special points of interest. For guided tours contact the Tourist Information Center.

Vega church from 1864 is located at Gladstad. Here you will also find the Vega local museum that among other things has displays of local findings dated back to the stone age.

Outdoor activities: You can hunt for goose, ptarmigan, duck and hare. There are also good opportunities for ocean and freshwater fishing.

In July the tourist office organises boat trips in the area’s fantastic archipelago. These trips are highly recommended. Accommodation is available in hotels and motels, at camp sites and in charming fishermen’s cabins.

Vega can be reached by the local express boat from Brnnysund or Sandnessjen. Or by ferry from Horn or Tjtta (see ferry schedules in the back of the travel guide).
