           signed char *fieldname );

PROTOTYPE IN
   sc_base.h

DESCRIPTION
   scddfnam2no searches through the field description array for data file
   handle looking for fieldname. It will return the corresponding field
   number.

NOTES
   Data files created by the SoftC Database Library will have field names and
   types changed to all upper case.
