Getting Started - The Clipboard
In order to capture
clips, the program just has to be running - You can leave it minimized. Whenever
you cut or copy from any other program, it will capture the clip. To paste back
clips, restore the program. The clipboard should be in one of the three columns.
If not, display it by clicking one of these buttons.
Each clip has been given a default name. If the clip is text, this is the first few words. If it's a graphic, this is "Graphic Clip". You see the name in the slots on the clipboard. If you move the mouse over the clip names, you see the clip in the viewer:
To paste a clip, point to the one you want and click on it.
To delete single clips, drag them, and the trash area will appear in the bottom right corner.
To delete all clips, drag the clipboard header to the trash area
To delete a selection of clips, click on them while holding down the Ctrl key, then drag your selections to the trash area.
The clipboard can be
displayed in any of the three columns of the main window by clicking the appropriate
button.
It can also be displayed separately in one of two formats.
As a column:
and as a horizontal
strip with the viewer.
In both of these formats,
you can have the clipboard remain on top of your working program where you can
see clips appear as you copy and where you can paste back without having to
restore. Just tick the "On Top" box:
To change to the column
display, click here:
To change to the horizontal
display, click here:
To return from the column,
To return from the horizontal
display, click the "Full Display" button.
Because you will want to restore your clipboard quickly and easily to paste clips, the program has two restore methods not present in most programs. It can be restored by typing a function key or by just touching a screen edge with the mouse and clicking the button that appears.
To set these up, move
the mouse over the viewing area, and click the options button which appears:
In the options window,
select a function key and one or more screen edges here:
You must select a function key if you want to be able to paste clips entirely with the keyboard. Once you have a function key, you can simply type it, then the letter next to the clip you want.
Getting Started - Saving Clips Permanently
The clipboard holds the last 30 clips. When you cut or copy for the 31st time, the first clip is discarded so you always have the last 30 clips (Even if your PC has been shut down). To keep clips permanently before they scroll off the clipboard, you need to move them into your clip libraries.
The program has 100 nameable libraries, each of which has 100 nameable groups of 30 clips.
On first installation, library 1 is selected with groups 1,2 and 3 in the three columns. (Group 1 is covered by the clipboard.)
To move or copy clips from the clipboard into a group, all you need to do is drag them there. Dragging with the left mouse button moves the clip. Dragging with the right button copies the clip.
To move clips to the group covered by the clipboard, move the clipboard to one of the other columns by clicking the appropriate "Show Clipboard" button.
To move or copy all
clips, drag this:
Once you have moved clips to your libraries, you will probably find that the default names they were given are not exactly what you would like - For example "asmith2345@aol.com" would be much easier to find if it were called "Arthur's email address".
To change a default clip name, right click on the clip. You can also create clips manually by right clicking on an empty group slot. In either case, the clip edit window will appear. You can change the clip name and optionally add color to the clip for highlighting purposes.
It is a good idea to give a name to your first library and first three groups. Until you are familiar with the column control buttons, you can right click on the column headers:
and use the text menu:
Getting Started - Using Saved Clips
The clips you have saved are used exactly the same as the ones on the clipboard. Just point to the one you want and click on it. Like the clipboard, each group can also be displayed separately as a column and can be kept on top of your work.
To display a group as
a column click on the group name:
To return to the full display, click on it again.
Saved clips can be deleted by dragging them to the trash area. They can also be moved or copied to other groups by dragging. To delete an entire group of clips, drag the group name to the trash area.
When you are ready to start more groups, come back and read the section "Arranging your clips for easy access".
You can get back to the help files by typing F1 or by clicking the help button that appears when the mouse is over the viewer area.
