The Room reader survey

An Introduction
Ever since US Vice President Al Gore started talking about the Information Superhighway, the great and the good have considered it imperative to buy into this weird and wonderful new technology, which many talk about but few actually understand. I, for example, don't have a clue what the hell it is all about, but I have just set myself up as an Internet guru. Accordingly I have purchased a large freeholding in 'Cyberspace' and intend to build myself a fairy castle there where I will be safe from nasty viruses, walruses and all other '-ruses'.

People all over the world are talking about 'getting online' and I fully intend to get on there too, just as soon as I've found out where it is. But what do we know about Internet users? Are they all spotty, nerdy youths who spend an unhealthy amount of time in their bedrooms and have an even more unhealthy fixation with Pamela Anderson? Or are they an uber-race of technocrats who live their lives in virtual reality and program their computers to warn them when their underpants need changing?

In fact, surprisingly little is known about the average user of the Internet. Until now. We have commissioned an extremely expensive and glossy report to tell us precisely what we want to hear. And these are the results.
