************************** * Welcome to * * TurboGo for Windows 95 * ************************** Welcome to TurboGo for Windows 95 version 3.0, the first version for Windows 95! Please read the text below before using TurboGo. 1. This is a shareware version of TurboGo for Windows 95. Some features of TurboGo are not available in this shareware version: * TurboGo knows 5 different playing levels. Only the lowest 3 are available in the shareware version. * The shareware-version does not save your preferences. Naturally, the registered version will. All the windows positions and all your preferences (like the board color) will be stored in an INI file. Every time you start TurboGo, you will find it the way you left it. * In the shareware-version you will be periodically reminded that you haven't registered yet. You will not see these reminder screens in the registered version. 2. TurboGo for Windows 95 is shareware. This means that you must register TurboGo if you decide to keep using it. I have decided not to release TurboGo as a "30 day trial version" because I think that people have to be able to test TurboGo as long as they think they need. But don't forget: you must register if you decide you want to keep using TurboGo. 3. Registering TurboGo will cost you US$30 (30 american dollars) or DFL 50,-- (50 Dutch guilders). People who have registered TurboGo for DOS in the past can register for half that amount (don't forget to tell me your DOS registration number!). In return you will receive your personal registration code, that will enable you to turn your shareware version into a fully functional registered version. This code will remain valid for future versions of TurboGo for Windows 95, you will only have to register once. For more information about registering TurboGo, please read the helpfile. 4. The most important change in this version was porting TurboGo from the operating system MS-DOS to Windows 95. Although I think it has gone pretty good, I'm not satisfied yet. I would like to make a lot of improvements in future versions: - A much better move generating algorithm. The Windows 95 platform, combined with the fast modern computers, give me a lot of extra possibilities. The next version of TurboGo should play stronger. - If everything goes well, I will also release a German language version of TurboGo. - Printing games. - TurboGo can only load and save games in its own .GAM file format. A next version should also support the standard .SGF and .GO file formats. It is very hard for me to estimate (let alone promise) when these features will be implemented. The only thing I can say is that I will do my best to implement as many features as fast as possible. 5. I can only encourage distribution of the shareware version of TurboGo for Windows 95, as long as you follow these simple rules: - DO NOT DISTRIBUTE A SERIAL NUMBER WITH TURBOGO. A serial number is a number that will turn TurboGo into a registered version and has been issued to one specific registered user. This serial number is stored in the TURBOGO.INI file. The shareware-version does not use the TURBOGO.INI file, so you should never distribute this file together with TurboGo. Naturally, you are not allowed to distribute the serial number in any other way as well! - You must make absolutely clear that you are distributing the SHARE- WARE version of TurboGo, and that the user is required to pay a registration fee to me if he or she keeps using the program. - It is very important to me that users get the latest version of TurboGo. Please check regularly on my homepage whether a more recent version is available. Or you can send me an e-mail, and I will keep you updated whenever I release a new version. - You must make sure that you distribute ALL files UNMODIFIED. You should always distribute these files together: * TURBOGO.EXE * TURBOGO.HLP * README.TXT * LEESMIJ.TXT * TURBOGO.DAT * REGISTER.EXE * REGISTER.HLP * FILE_ID.DIZ You are not allowed to change anything in these files. If you want to add another text file yourself, no problem. PLEASE NOTE THAT YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO DISTRIBUTE THE TURBOGO.INI FILE, SINCE ONLY THE REGISTERED VERSION USES THIS FILE! - Naturally, you can charge a nominal fee for the distribution of TurboGo. I consider a fee of US$5 (5 American Dollars) the maximum for a diskette with TurboGo, and US$2.5 (2.5 American Dollars) per program for a CD-ROM. I consider any amount above that unreasonable. If you want to distribute TurboGo for any higher amount, you do NOT have my permission. If you want to distribute TurboGo, but for some reason can not comply with these rules, please contact me and we'll see if we can work something out. 6. If you have any questions, comments or suggestions regarding TurboGo, please don't hesitate to contact me, whether you have already registered TurboGo or not. I really like to hear from people what they think of my program, and what they think could be improved. Here is my address: Arnoud van der Loeff P.O.
