Configuring Portable Device options

Use the Portable Device tab to select the quality of the music that you copy from your computer to your portable device.

Note   If you are using a Microsoft Windows CE device, ActiveSync 3.0 or later is required to connect Windows Media Player to a portable device. ActiveSync 3.0 is the communication software your computer uses to connect to a Windows CE device.

To access the Portable Device tab

The following options are listed on the Portable Device tab:

Let Windows Media Player decide

This option is selected by default; Windows Media Player automatically sets the quality level of the music that is copied to your portable device.

Select quality level

Click this option if you want to specify the audio quality level of the music that is copied to your portable device. The following table lists the range of quality levels:

Quality Bit rate Disk space*
Smallest size 32 Kbps 14 MB
Medium 64 Kbps 28 MB
Best Quality 128 Kbps 56 MB

*Refers to the amount of disk space required if you copy an entire CD according to quality level.

Currently supported devices

Use the Details button to open a Web page that lists information about the types of portable devices that you can transfer files to.
