Notifications for instant messaging
With OfficeTalk's Notify facility you compose messages and then send them directly to other
users' screens. This may be considered a more urgent and visible
form of E-Mail. It is excellent for transmitting transient information, such as phone messages or asking simple questions to which an urgent reply is sought. Provided that the recipient is running OfficeTalk,
regardless of what application the recipient is currently working
in, any message received will appear over the top of all other
windows, ensuring that they are made aware of the message. Users can check that the addressee is logged on to OfficeTalk before sending a Notification, providing the opportunity to take an alternative course of action, if required. Notifications are also available in the Meeting Manager, should meetings need to be called at short notice.

" ... the often overlooked, but useful possibility of immediate mail ... where Email is like putting something in someone's in-tray, this is like slapping a sticky note on their screen."
