[About The Guide]
Creating a private Node
Creating a private node is a feature that is becoming more and more
common on many boards, it allows you to give easier access to paid
subscribers.
I have found two good ways of achiving this, these are :-
1. Change the LIMITS.CTL in the private node directory
to reflect that No time is give to users of a certain
security level on that node. (Nice and easy way)
2. Change the 'Menus Path' in RACONFIG in the private node
directory to point to a seperate menu's path for the
private node. Then edit the TOP.MNU in this path to
display a file telling the user that this is a members
only node and then use the control sting to terminate the
call, make this textfile display only to users with a
certain flag setting.
This meathod sounds complex but works VERY WELL! and
all multi-node features will work fine. Since this
meathod is more complex, i'll try and describe it better
using a diagram.
C:\RA --------+-NODE_2--+
| |
| +MENUS_2
+MENUS
|
+TXTFILES
1. Copy all you menus from C:\RA\MENUS to C:\RA\NODE_2\MENUS_2
2. Fire up RACONFIG in C:\RA\NODE_2 and change the path to the
menus to C:\RA\NODE_2\MENUS_2
3. Fire up RAMENU in C:\RA\NODE_2 and add the following line to
the TOP.MNU
User Display : <leave blank>
Menu Type : 5 Display ANS/ASC file
Optional Data : SUB_ONLY
Hot Key : <leave blank>
Automatic : Yes
Colour : <Whatever takes your fancy>
Security : 0
Flags-A : --------
Flags-B : --------
Flags-C : --------
Flags-D : X-------
Now create a file called SUB_ONLY (.ANS / ASC) This should
contain a brief note telling the user that this is a private
node and any other deatials you wish add (ie Public node No.)
On the last line of this file place a 'CTRL KX', this tells RA
to terminate the call after it has sent this message. You may
also whish to place a 'CTRL A' before this, to make sure the user
gets all to the file before RA terminates the call.
4. Now your setup!!, to use this meathod make sure all your Paid
members have Flag D1 set as OFF, and all other users D1 set as
ON, this will stop paid members from being displayed SUB_ONLY
and being cut off!!
Well if you understand that your well on the way to mastering RA !!
