In this part, I'll explain battle a little more detailed. No, a lot more detailed. I'll describe how it starts, what happens during, and how it ends. So pay attention because it can move very fast. The first battle I'll describe is for the ones who use swords. The sword user is the brute force, the one who stands in the front line and holds off the majority of the enemy. He depends on his courage, skill with a sword, and in N.E.R.O., his ability to speak quikly and clearly. In battle when you use a weapon, you must call the damage you do with your weapon. For instince if you are using a long sword, you'd call "2" every time you swing, that way if you hit, your oppenent knows how many points to take off. If you have weapon proficiency +1, then you'd call "3" damage with a long sword. (The skill +1 applies to damage, it doesn't allow you to hit creatures needing magical +'s to hit) Next is magic fighting. For those of you using magic, I'll do my best. (I don't use magic but I have a strong grip on how it's used) For my example, I'll asume the role of a first level Celestial Magic (Attack Spells) schalor with no weapons, 3 first level spells, 2 second level, 1 third level. At the beggining of the weekend and at 6:00p.m. the next day, you chose the spells you want to memorize, say I memorize: 2 Magic Missle and 1 Disarm as my 1st level spells: 1 armor and 1 lightning bolt as my second level spells: and 1 Ice Bolt as my 3rd level spell. After getting my spells from the rules commitee at the beggining of the game, and the next day at 6-7 p.m., I can cast them whenever I want to. So lets say I go ahead and cast Armor on myself. I would say "I draw upon the forces of the earth to grant me armor to protect me." There, that gives me an extra 4 armor points giving me a total of 7 points. (I'm not wearing any other armor so I just add it to my body points which are 3) So now feeling a little safer, I decide to go adventureing. I join up with a group of 2 fighters, 1 Earth Magic (Healing Spells) templar, and another Celestial schalor. We decide that we should go check out the goblin caves. On our way there, we run into an ogre and 2 goblins. The goblins are relativly easy with 8 body points, and using a long sword calling 2 damage. The ogre on the other hand is a lot harder with 15 points, and calling 6 damage with a two handed sword. So the fighters decide to take out the goblins, while the spell casters take out the ogre. I prepare to cast an Ice Bolt, my most powerful spell. I recall the incantation, and say in the loudest, clear voice I have, "I stike you with an Ice Bolt!", and throw my bean bag. For those of you who can't memorize well, don't worry because you don't HAVE to memorize it. I COULD look it up right before I cast it, but that would not be good in battle as when I go to look it up, I could be killed. It hits the ogre square in the chest doing 12 damage. But that didn't kill him and he charges after me. He hits me as I turn and does 6 damage, reducing me to 1 point. Lucky I had the Armor spell. The other schalor readies his Magic Missle spell and yells the incantation to make it sound more fearsome. "I SMITE YOU WITH A MAGIC MISSLE!!!!" he screams at the top of his lungs. It hits the ogre on the back and does 4 damage, enough to drop him. We go up to him and put our hands on his shoulder and say "Killing blow one, killing blow 2, killing blow 3." That prevents him from getting healed and coming back. Then we look to the fighters and see they finished off the goblins and are searching them. So we search the ogre. There is no actual searching, you just say, "I search you." If they have things hidden on them, they just say "Do a detail search." Then you would go through the process of what you do to search them. For example. "I remove your shoes, or I slit you stomach and search inside." (Sometimes there will be jewls inside if it's a monster.) The ogre has 4 experience points, and 2 copper. I split the copper and experience with the other schalor for helping me with the kill and saving my life. Then the templar asks how bad I'm hurt. I say, "Down to my life ticket." That means I have 1 point left. He says he'll heal me. So I stand still and he casts Cure Light Wounds which gives me 2 points. I'm back up to my maximum body points. To bad I don't have another Armor spell. Now if I had been hit one more time, I would have been at -1 bodu points. And if I was either killing blowed, or hit again, I would have died and needed reserection. But if that didn't happen, then the Earth magic templar could have First Aided me in 30 seconds for 30 seconds and I would have been at 1 body point again. That is he would put his hand on my shoulder and called First Aid, and counted to 30. If it took him longer than 30 seconds, I would have need a Life spell. After 5 minutes and 30 seconds, I would need a reserection spell. I think that pretty much covers battle. SEE YA' Walter Berry
