408 Bomber Squadron was formed in England on 24 June 1941 and retained its bombing role and title until it was disbanded on 5 September 1945. They reformed on 10 January 1949 at RCAF Station Rockliffe as a Photographic Reconnaissance squadron. On 18 July 1957 they were renamed 408 Reconnaissance Squadron and on 1 May 1964 the squadron moved to RCAF Station Rivers to become 408 Transport and Reconnaissance Squadron. They were disbanded on 1 April 1970 and moved to CFB Edmonton where it reformed as 408 Tactical Helicopter Squadron adn currently flies the CH-146 Griffon.
