MISSION 1: THE NECROMANCER’S SPIRIT

Your first mission is to stop Ehrog the Dark, leader of the death cult. Create three leaders for this mission: a Pegasus Knight, an Archangel, and an Archmage. The Pegasus Knight is an ideal fighter and is essential in almost every mission. The Archangel is a great healer and can plant rods that will convert needed areas over to your side. The Archmage is a powerful magician that will be of great use when it comes to casting spells. The capitol is where each leader’s army is assigned. Pair your Knight with two Squires, an Apprentice and an Archer. The Archangel can’t be paired with more than one person at first, as she’s really not a fighter — use her only for planting rods and keep her out of battle. The Archmage should bring with him an Apprentice, an Acolyte, and a Squire. You’ll need to establish some buildings in the capitol. Build a Stable, Archery, and Magic Tower. (Only one building can be built each day.) Make sure to search nearby areas for possible loot, mana, and other goodies. Use the mana you collect to enhance your Archmage’s spell library throughout the game.

Navigating the interface can be a bit tricky at first, but you’ll catch on quickly.>

Now let’s begin the journey. Make your way south and you’ll soon reach the small town of Milonia, where you can also hire additional leaders. (If you already have your three, you’re fine.) Continue south and send the Pegasus Knight and his army first, followed by the Mage and Archangel. You’ll come across a semi-tough Orc battle, which, if you have your Knight equipped as described, should prove to be a cinch.

<   The capitol is where you upgrade, heal, and pick leaders and army formation.

Make your way east once you’ve explored your surroundings, making sure to take out bandits and baddies whenever possible so you gain experience. Tackle that big wicked Ogre to the east before you continue on. Note: If your Acolytes haven’t leveled up to Mages and your Archers haven’t become Marksmen by this point, then we recommend you pass on this battle until they have.

With the proper leader, a fight like this will be a breeze. See ya, Orc! >

You’ll eventually reach the castle that has been taken over by Ehrog. You’ll need to liberate the people here, but prepare for a tough fight. Use your Pegasus Knight for this battle, and if possible, have him already at level 2 before the fight begins. Before mission 2 starts, you’ll be allowed to take any one hero with you over into the next campaign. Choose your Pegasus Knight.

<   This Ogre is huge and will do some serious damage. Have a healer on-hand or you’ll be in trouble.

You might lose a leader in this battle, so have your Archmage ready to go as a backup.   >

MISSION 2: THE ALLIANCE

At start of the level, make sure you stay around your capitol. Add at least one Archmage and one Archangel to the Pegasus Knight you already have. Additionally, make it your priority to build a Temple and a Ruined Temple. The Temple lets you heal and revive your party any time you have access to a capitol, while the Ruined Temple will give you the ability to incorporate the Titan into your party. Once you’re ready, follow the river north to find Slookaarji. Engage in any and all battles you think you can win along your journey — most of them will prove no tougher than the ones you encountered in the previous mission.
The Titan is essential to your party for his great damage ability, but be aware that he’ll take the place of two regular members. >

Along the way, feel free to attack some castles and liberate them at will. The battles won’t prove too tough, but make sure your whole party is fully revived and healed at the temple before you engage any tough foes. (Remember to right-click on enemies to get party information prior to your attack.) Note: If your leader dies in battle, your best bet is to retreat and head to the temple. If you lose your whole team, you’ll have to get a new leader, which isn’t worth the price. If it ends up happening anyway, load a previously saved game and try again. As your heroes level, make sure to give one of them the ability to equip Orbs — by now you’ve probably picked up a few. Make sure you’ve built the proper buildings at your castle (e.g., Magic Tower, Temple) so your team will be ready to level up. Along the way you’ll find some parties on which you won’t be able to right-click to uncover their party information. Make sure you have a thief investigate these parties. One of the final castles you liberate in the north will tell you about your next objective. Now it’s time to head east to find Slookaarji.

< Make sure you’ve built all the necessary buildings so that your party members will upgrade as soon as they earn enough XP.

As you make your way east, you’ll run into the Spectral Forest. Prepare for many battles with various Undead creatures in the area. You’ll soon fall into an ambush and will only be able to defeat the Werewolves with your Archmage because the wolves are immune to physical attacks. Make sure you have two Guards to absorb the physical attacks coming at you, and use your Mage to dish out the pain. This battle shouldn’t be too tough. If you find yourself struggling, go back to the castle and use your mana to get stronger spells for your Archmage.
Use the Archmage in this battle and make sure to set up two Guards upfront to absorb the Werewolves’ physical attacks. >

Now liberate the final castle and free Slookaarji to complete the mission. As usual, make sure to carry your Knight with you into the next mission once you’re done.

MISSION 3: THE ANTAGONIST

Upon beginning your journey, pick two new heroes to join your Knight. Now follow the Traveler north and prepare for some serious battles. Make sure you’ve built a Ruined Temple, a Guild, a Magic Tower, and a Stable before you get too far in. Also, make sure you research a few decent spells for your Archmage before you send your Knight(s) into battle so that you can soften up the enemy before going in for the kill.

< Using the Archmage’s spell abilities before you send your Knight(s) into battle will really speed along your success.

As you progress further north you’ll meet Uther, and your new objective will be to make sure he doesn’t die while you make your way to Hubert. Progress south through the dark woods. You’ll have to take on some fierce spiders, so now might be a good time to level up your characters by engaging in some far-easier nearby battles prior to tackling bigger prey. Have a healer in your primary combat party, as the poison from the spiders can do a lot of damage. You’ll eventually come upon Hubert. Hubert will be the easiest to kill, but his surrounding party will be fairly difficult. One member will bring back all of the dead, making progress very hard. You won’t be able to get to him in the back row without an archer. The best strategy here is to focus a fierce spell from your Archmage on the enemy party. Then send in your team and make sure you have a Marksman or two in the back row. Once you take out Uther, defeating everyone else will be a piece of cake.

Hubert’s party will pose more of a threat than he will, so make sure you’re prepared.  >

MISSION 4: UTHER’S CRUSADE

The Golem will rock your enemies to death (literally). Golems are very useful when you want to save your party’s energy for more pressing battles. >

Having brought over your Pegasus Knight from the last mission, gear up three heroes (total). Uther starts with you immediately, so that’s one more hero straight away; just remember that if he dies, the game’s over, so you may not want to count him as one of the three. Take the time to look around your immediate surroundings for possible loot and attack nearby enemies at every opportunity. You must liberate many castles on this map, so take your time and level up accordingly. Some castles will require your Knight’s party to charge in and then retreat because one or two of your foes may be immune to physical attacks. This will require a somewhat “tag-team” style tactic that will have you switching off between your Knight and your Archmage. The ultimate goal here is to capture as many castles as possible. As you make your way south, you’ll have to battle some tough Trolls. Your best bet is to focus on physical attacks using your most powerful Knight (that should be the one you keep transferring between missions) and your Squire. Your knight should be at level 6 by now, so he should be able to dish out up to 110HP per hit. Another very useful tactic is to have your Archmage create a golem to send into battle before your Knight attacks. This is a level 4 spell that you can study in the castle.

<   These trolls are tough, but nothing that a solid party can’t handle.

Look for the Talisman of Life when you reach one of the southern castles: it will allow you to bring back your dead party members without having to go back to one of your own castles. Make sure you have your Knight (or whomever else you choose to take with you into the next mission) equip it.

MISSION 5: SLANDER AND BARBARISM

As usual, create two extra heroes and make sure that your third hero, your main one, has the ability to plant banners. This will make the use of Archangels unnecessary and save you money and time. If you haven’t been up to now, spend a lot of time focusing on this main character (hopefully a Knight) and his party. Take a few of the surrounding castles in order to level up quickly. You’ll soon be confronted by an Elf who’ll help guide you back to his home, which is being terrorized. Note: You can use the Elf and his party, but don’t let any of them die. There are two ways of completing this mission: (1) You can bring the Elf back to his island and get rid of his foe (this is the easier of the two routes), or (2) You can continue on with the original mission objective to destroy Lady Lys, win the objective, and get 1,000 Gold to boot.

Lady Lys isn’t easy to beat because she can revive her party during battle, but if you’ve been focusing on leveling up your main party, it should be a breeze. By this point you could have upgraded your Squire as far as Angel, and beefed up your Archer to an Assassin, since an Assassin can pose a great threat to Lys by poisoning her right from the start.

< Going to the island and saving the Elves is the easiest way to finish this mission.

MISSION 6: THE CELEBRATION

It turns out Uther wasn’t what he seemed to be at all. Immediately upon the start of the mission, Demons invade the town. There are various Peasants and Spearmen around town that will defend you. However, they are very weak and should be relied upon only as cover. Use your primary hero character (along with whatever other heroes you’d like to hire) and attack as soon as possible.

< The Demons will prove to be very weak opponents when attacked by a large party as shown.

< The Onyx Gargoyle battles are the second toughest, next to the battle with Uther’s clan. The Gargoyle is the slowest to die, so get rid of everyone else before him.

The goal here is to eliminate the demons led by Uther. However, to stand a chance, you’ll have to conquer the majority of the map before you engage Uther directly. Begin by taking over the Neutral castles. After a few days, the Dwarves will offer a Treaty. Accept the Treaty and your mission will become much easier. Continue to conquer the map, including the Elf’s home area. Once you gain control of the majority of the map, take the western demon castle. From there, head south toward Uther. Uther will send a very tough demon your way. This fight will prove easier if you have an Angel, an Assassin, and an ultra-powerful Mage on your side. Remember to use the Assassin’s poison attack on the back row and focus your Knight's or Angel’s attack on the Onyx Gargoyle in front. Keep Life Potions with you at all times so you don’t have to trek back to your castle to revive dead party members. Save before you take on Uther’s party because it’ll take some luck to defeat him, even with a very strong party. Immediately focus your attacks on the Beast, then the Berserker. If you can eliminate the two of them in a timely fashion, then you’ve pretty much won the fight. Use your characters wisely: for example, use the Assassin to poison weaker characters or get at back-row enemies, use your Knight hero against really strong foes, and then use the Angel for serious damage upfront.)

Uther is one tough baddie. Stay in formation and follow our tips to prevail. >

MISSION 7: BINDING FORCES

This map is perhaps the largest in the game. Uther’s demon form lies at the very north of the map, along with the other Demon lairs. Avoid these for now. We recommend you make only two parties here: one with the leader you transferred over, and the other with an Archmage. For the Knight, you’ll have one advanced Squire ready to go, but you’ll have to level up the rest of the party on your own. Make sure to have two Squires in each party. With only two parties to worry about, quick leveling should be a cinch. Focus on conquering the Neutral regions first, followed by the Undead (which are in alliance with Uther’s Demons). Basically, you’ll want to zigzag from left to right across this map until you make your way all the way up north. Go west upon beginning the level, and then begin your zigzag pattern. Along the way, watch out for Werewolves: they’re not around very often, but they’re totally invulnerable to physical attacks. Learn and use your Archmage’s Golem Summon spell and keep your party out of those fights whenever possible. Certain areas on the map contain other magical beings that are also immune to physical attacks, so make sure you get your Archmage’s party leveled quickly so that they can whoop up on magical foes more effectively.

Make sure you’ve got at least one Angel for the final fight. Also, your Archers should become Assassins or Witch Hunters before you take the plunge. Finally, make sure your Acolytes and Mages are fully leveled and always in the back row. As you get closer to the north, Uther will cast a fog spell to blind you, making it impossible for you to see your surroundings. The good news is that all you need to do at this point is take the northern path and stay on it.

<  Here's the formation and members that we found to work best for this mission. They have a long way to go before they’re ready for Uther’s demonic form, but they’ll triumph if you use all the tips you’ve learned.

The battle with Demon Uther is amazingly difficult. As soon as combat begins, Uther casts a devastating fire spell, so make sure your leader is equipped with a Fire Ward item. It'll probably take a few tries, but if you focus all of your attacks on the surrounding enemies first, the fight with Demon Uther will be much easier. It doesn’t hurt to Guard, either. Make sure to set your Mages and Healers to guard, as they'll be the first to be attacked in this tough battle. Keep plenty of revive potions on your leader and use them well. Your Knight should dish out upward of 180HP to 250HP per hit by now, and your Angels should do about 150HP to 200HP. Finally, make sure to have your Archmage cast all manner of Wards on your party before you go into battle: this move will help immeasurably.

Demon Uther is one tough mother. Guard often, have your Archmage use Fire Ward on your party, and have lots of Revive Potions on-hand. >
