The work area of a display in your windowing operating system.
If you're using a multi-display desktop, your desktop area includes more than one display area. If you're not using a multi-display desktop, your desktop area and your display area are effectively the same.
Note: To change display settings in Windows, right-click your Windows desktop background, then click Properties > Settings. To change your display area, use the Screen area (Windows 2000) or Screen resolution (Windows XP) slider.
