Such portions are clearly marked with the name of the edition (Enterprise, Professional, Standard, etc.) to which the information applies. CONTENTS =========================================================== -- DELPHI INSTALLATION -- KNOWN INSTALLATION ISSUES -- REMOVING DELPHI DELPHI INSTALLATION =========================================================== Starting the installation program ----------------------------------------------------------- The Delphi 5 installation program should run automatically when you insert your CD. Otherwise, launch the setup program-- INSTALL.EXE --from your CD. From the Launcher, you can install Delphi, InstallShield Express, and other programs (which vary depending on your edition of Delphi). You can also connect directly to Borland to register your copy of Delphi (requires a working Internet connection). *********************************************************** IMPORTANT! Be sure to reboot the computer (as prompted by the installation program) after installing and before using the product. *********************************************************** Installation directory ----------------------------------------------------------- By default, Delphi 5 installs into the directory: \Program Files\Borland\Delphi5 This README and most other documentation assumes these defaults. If you install to a different location, be sure you do not install over any previous Delphi release. Installing the Borland Database Engine ----------------------------------------------------------- This release of Delphi includes a new version of the Borland Database Engine (BDE). Unless you specify other than the default setup directories during installation, Delphi will overwrite existing 32-bit BDE and SQL Links installations. Note that BDE is available only in the Enterprise and Professional editions of Delphi 5; SQL Links is available only in the Enterprise edition. For additional BDE installation information, see BDEINST.TXT in your main BDE directory (installation default: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Borland Shared\Bde) KNOWN INSTALLATION ISSUES =========================================================== InterBase Client ----------------------------------------------------------- When installing Delphi and InterBase client, an invalid error message may occur. With an error code of 401, the message is "String variable is not large enough for string. Check the string declarations". Ignore the error and click the OK button, the installation will proceed normally. When this problem does occur, it should only be on installations involving very long directory paths. InterBase Install/Registry ----------------------------------------------------------- If the error "Internal error near: IBcheck" occurs, check the PATH value for the registry key: HK_Current_user\environment and if it is a hex value delete it or convert it to a character string. InterBase 5 and NetWizard ----------------------------------------------------------- NetWizard may interfere with the installation of InterBase 5 (not included with all editions of Delphi), resulting in the error "Error trying to interface with Windows shell." You must disable NetWizard prior to installing Delphi. Known installation issues with Delphi and other products ----------------------------------------------------------- For issues that relate to Delphi 5 installation, see README.TXT on the root of your Delphi 5 CD.
