Updating Windows Media Player

Q: I have Windows 95 and I seem to need the basic Windows Media Player so as to be able to download updates from the net. This basic component is part of Windows 98 (which I do not have) so can you tell me if you ever issued a copy of what I need and if so what month and where to obtain a copy?

A: To be able to download component updates for your Operating System you will have to have Internet Explorer version 4 or higher. The current version on our cover CD is 5.5. Once you have this installed, connect to the Internet and go to the 'Tools' menu. From here, select 'Windows Update'. This will connect you to Microsoft's web site, which will proceed to search your computer for components that can be upgraded. If you receive a message or warning asking you if you 'trust' the content from this website click on ?yes?. Your hard drive will then be searched and a list of updateable components will be shown to you once its finished. You can then proceed to download the ones that you need. For more information check out the ?Windows Updates? article in the Windows 9x section of Help Screen.
