Norton 3.0 - new, improved, buggy

Tip
The latest version of Symantec's Norton Utilities is already making a name for itself. Though a Symantec spokesperson told me that NU 3.0 is no buggier than previous versions, it's clear from messages in the company's public technical support discussion groups that the utility is causing serious problems for its customers.
Many users report that the program's vaunted new Zip rescue feature deletes partition information from Zip drive disks, rendering the media permanently unusable. Others say their rescue Zip disks simply don't work. Customers also report conflicts with drivers for Diamond's Stealth 3D graphics board, and have encountered Windows Registry corruption that can prevent Windows from loading. Symantec released two LiveUpdate patches in December and January that fix these and other serious problems.
As we go to press, LiveUpdate 2 is the most recent patch; it also includes the fixes in LiveUpdate 1. You can install the patch using NU's LiveUpdate feature (provided you have an Internet connection), or from our cover CD.
For a Zip rescue troubleshooting and work-around guide, as well as information on solving and working around other problems, see Symantec's Knowledgebase at http://service.symantec.com/nu/kbase_nu.html.
One more problem -- a conflict with Norton AntiVirus may cause your A-drive to freeze. Solution? Update your NAV virus database.
