Outlook Express tells you when new mail arrives

Tip
David Wipert has a nifty trick to configure Internet Explorer 4.0's Outlook Express to poll your Internet service provider regularly for mail and inform you when new messages have arrived.
From the Mail menu, select Tools--Options, then click the Read tab.
In the Message is read after being previewed for xx second(s) box, set the time to 60 seconds. Now the envelope symbol will be displayed beside the clock on the Taskbar for 60 seconds after a new message arrives.
Select the General tab, and set a time in the Check for new messages every xx minute(s) box. Check the Play sound when new messages arrive box and click Apply.
To change the sound that plays, select Start--Settings--Control Panel and double-click the Sounds icon. In the Sounds Properties dialogue box, select New Mail Notification in the Events list, click Browse, and navigate to and select the sound file of your choice. Click OK to close the dialogue box and save your change.
