Why pay more for SCSI?

Why is a Fast SCSI-2 hard drive (10Mb/sec) more expensive than a Mode 4 EIDE hard drive (16.6Mb/sec) when the transfer rate is slower?
- Frank Lin

EIDE drives are the most commonly used drives in new PCs, so they are manufactured in their tens of thousands, which keeps their price lower due to economies in manufacture rather than technology. You can also get Fast and Wide SCSI, which goes to 20Mb/sec for a higher price.
