My question is about Windows NT 4.0 (Workstation) and what specification machine it will run on. I currently own a DX4/100 with 24Mb RAM and I have been told that this machine has insufficient memory or processor speed to run Windows NT. I was hoping that this could be clarified.

The importance of processor speed for Windows NT and for Windows 95 is greatly exaggerated. In fact, given enough RAM NT will outperform 95, which will in turn outperform Windows 3.x. NT is designed to run in 16Mb RAM. 24Mb -- the amount of RAM you have -- is the recommended minimum. Remember no one uses just the operating system, they use the operating system plus at least one program. If possible, I would try and increase it to a minimum of 32Mb. Most people using NT tend to be at the high end of the user spectrum, doing desktop publishing, graphics, programming etc. If you are one of these people then your computer will probably be inadequate, not because you cannot run NT, but because it will not adequately handle the programs you are running under NT.
