To make word 97 and 2000 automatically list files with extensions other than .doc in the Open dialog box, select FileòOpen, drop down the 'Files of type' list, and select All Files (*.*). Then open and close any file. Thereafter, Word will use the All Files (*.*) choice by default until you change to another file type using the same technique.
