When you pull down or pop up a menu in Windows 98, it slides gracefully onto the screen - nice at first, but annoying after a few hundred viewings. If you want old-fashioned, faster menus that just appear, right-click the desktop, select Properties, and click the Effects tab. Uncheck the Animate windows, menus and lists option, and then click OK.
