Post Web graphics in the right format

To make your Web page quick to download, store in JPEG format (.jpg) only those images that contain lots of colours and shading. Black-and-white or greyscale pictures, and pictures with large areas of a few colours, should be stored as GIF files. GIF compresses images by storing in shorthand format large areas of a single colour. So if your image has just a few areas of basic colour, it will be much smaller in GIF than in JPEG format.
