Richter Brewing Company announces Ancient Ale
Centuries-old recipe basis of a modern classic
SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- Richter Brewing Company archeologists made history last year when they uncovered the world's oldest recipe for beer while working on a dig in Memphis, Egypt. Incised on a vase that once held a fermenting mixture of water, yeast, hops, and malt, the recipe has been translated and will serve as the basis for the latest addition to the Richter line of fine brews -- Ancient Ale.
"Beermaking is one of the highest achievements of civilization," said Hans Richter, CEO and Head Brewmaster. "With Ancient Ale, we take a step back in time to honor those early beer makers who took the fruits of early agriculture and turned them into something quite marvelous."
Ancient Ale consists of a unique mixture of water, hops, yeast, and barley. Richter Brewing Company geneticists backbred several strains of yeast and hops to achieve the precise flavor experienced by Egyptians from the 22nd. Dynasty.
