Designating a Drop Directory

For the default domain, you must identify a directory in which to drop all incoming messages. Microsoft SMTP Service places messages for alias domains in the Drop directory used for the default domain. You can designate any directory as the Drop directory, provided it is local to the drive for Microsoft SMTP Service and is not already assigned as the Pickup directory. By default, this is a subdirectory of the SMTP Mailroot directory.

To designate a Drop directory
  1. Select the Domain Properties property sheet.
  2. In the Drop Directory box, type the directory used to drop all incoming messages. The default location is root:\Inetpub\Mailroot\Drop. Optionally, select Browse and select the directory. Make sure that you select the Drop directory and not the Pickup directory.
