Note: For the purposes of this guide, the terms "Directory" and "Folder" are interchangeable.
Card View: When you start PiMover II you will see a short Creating File List message in the center of the screen as your memory card is scanned for files and directories. Once the message disappears you will find yourself in the default Card View of PiMover II. This view will list all files and directories available on the "root" of your memory card.
(The "root" of a memory card is defined as the "top directory in a file system." This simply means it is the first directory you have on the card, before you have added ANY files or other directories to it. In this example it is shown as "CF:/" on the screen.)
Note: If your PDA uses more than one memory card, both cards will be listed as separate "tabs" at the bottom of the PiMover II screen.
In this view you can select any file or directory by simply placing a checkmark next to its name. You will notice the Selected: number at the top of the screen will change accordingly. To enter or open a directory just tap once on the directory name. To return to the previous directory tap the very top folder image that is labeled ".." You will see the Creating File List message whenever you enter a new directory for the first time.
You can resort the file list alphabetically by tapping the word "Name" at the top of the file listing. You can also quickly move through a large list of files and directories by writing the first letter of the file or directory you are searching for into your graffiti area. The list will automatically adjust to bring the first file (alphabetically) starting with that letter to the top of the screen.
|
When individual files are present you can view the file size of each directly to the right of the file name. Directory sizes are not calculated. You can then switch your view from size to Creator or Type by tapping triangle next to the word "Size" and selecting any other category from the small list that appears. The new information will be listed in the second column each time. You can then sort the information by Size, Creator or Type by tapping the word itself in the upper corner.
|
Tapping once on the name or icon of a file will bring up a small menu with the options Copy, Move, Delete, Rename and Property listed. Choose any of the options by simply tapping once on the one you want to use. Choosing Copy or Move will copy or move the file from the card to RAM or vise versa only! It will not copy or move from the card to another directory within the same card. Rename allows you to set a new name for a file or directory. Property will list the file attributes of the file selected.
|
At the bottom-right corner of the screen you will see a memory usage gaugue that displays your available/total memory for the memory card you are using.
|
You can tap once on the path text at the bottom of the screen (shown as "CF:/Palm/Programs/Mapopolis" in the previous image) to quickly move from one directory to another. The path text should start with CF:/ and continue based upon the directory you currently have open. Tapping the path will open a second navigation screen that looks like the one pictured here. Navigate within this screen by tapping the "+" sign next to a directory/folder to open it. Then tap the directory name itself to select that directory/folder. The small folder icon should change to an "open folder" icon to show that it is selected. Finally, tap the OK button to return to the main PiMover II screen and enter the directory/folder you selected. This allows you to quickly move from one folder to another without browsing the contents of each in sequence.
This view will list both files and directories stored on your memory card. To view the files (there are no directories allowed in RAM) you have stored in RAM simply tap the small PDA icon in the bottom-left corner of the screen, the leftmost of the available "tabs" just above the path text and buttons. You should see another Creating File List message for a moment before the view is switched.
|
RAM View: This view will list all files and directories available on your PDA's RAM or Internal Memory. Much like the Card View, you can tap the name or icon of a file to bring up a small menu with the options Copy, Move, Delete, Rename and Property listed. There are no directories in RAM whatsoever. All of the features available in Card View are available here except tapping the path text area. As there are no directories in RAM there is no navigation necessary there.
|
In either Card View or RAM View you can restrict your file listing to either just Data or just Applications. In the upper-right corner of the screen you can tap the word All for another small menu to appear. Simply choose Apps or Data to restrict your file listing to one or the other.
Apps: This view will display only files that are "launchable applications" within RAM or the directory you are viewing. These are files that can be "run" by tapping them within your default launcher or with the PiRun Plugin within the RAM View.
Data: This view will display only data files within RAM or the directory you are viewing. These files are not "launchable" and are often associated with another program instead.
All: This will combine both Data and Apps views to list All files located within RAM or the directory you are viewing.
|
Select: Performing any operation to a file or directory within PiMover II requires you to select the appropriate files first. The easiest way to accomplish this is to tap the small square to the left of any file or directory you want to work with (either delete, move or copy). This simple procedure will allow you to select any number of files or directories in any sequence you want. To unselect any item, simply tap the small square to the left of the file or directory a second time to remove the checkmark there.
You can only select a group of files from within one directory at a time. The moment you tap another directory to open it your previous files will be unselected. Operations can only be performed on files or directories within one directory at a time.
|
If you want to select ALL the files within a directory or select NONE of them, you can do so with two simple taps. First, tap the Select button at the very bottom-right corner of the screen. Then just tap either Select All or Unselect All from the small menu that appears. (Note: These options also appear in the Tools menu.)
|
Move, Copy, Delete: After selecting the files within PiMover II in either RAM or Card View you have three options at the bottom of the screen: Move, Copy or Delete (Select was covered in the previous section). With PiMover II you can Move, Copy or Delete multiple files at one time. You can also move or copy the files from Card to RAM, RAM to Card or Card to Card with the same buttons.
Copy: We'll begin with the Copy button. After selecting at least one file on the screen you can tap the Copy button. If you are in Card View you will see a small menu with the options Copy to RAM and Copy to Card. In RAM View those options will not appear.
|
Choosing Copy to RAM while in Card View will leave a copy of the file(s) on your memory card as well as creating an exact copy of the file(s) in RAM. Be sure you have enough space in RAM to move the selected file(s). You will see a confirmation message before the file(s) will be copied.
If a file by the same name already exists in RAM you will be asked if you would like to Replace the file. Your options are Yes, No, Cancel, Yes to all or No to all in such a situation.
|
Tapping the Copy button while in RAM View or choosing Copy to Card while in Card View will open a second navigation screen exactly like the one that appears when you tap the path text area in Card View. From this Select Destination section you need to locate the directory you would like to copy the file(s) to. Tapping the "+" symbol next to a folder name will display the sub-directories available. Tapping the name or folder icon of any directory will select that directory as your destination. The selected directory will display an open folder icon. Tap the OK button to finish copying the file(s) into the selected directory from this screen.
You will see a Copy or Move progress bar while your files are being copied or moved. If a file by the same name already exists in RAM you will be asked if you would like to Replace the file. Your options are Yes, No, Cancel, Yes to all or No to all in such a situation.
Move: Using the Move button works in the same manner as the Copy button above, but will not leave a copy of your file(s) in the original location. Instead, it will "move" your file to the new location and then delete the original.
Delete: Tapping the Delete button will delete the file(s) from either RAM or Card View. You will see a Confirmation pop up before the file is actually deleted, allowing you to cancel the operation if needed.
|
Preferences: PiMover II allows you to set certain Preferences to help your customize how it works. To access them in either RAM or Card View, tap the menu icon of your graffiti area and choose Preferences from the Options menu.
|
The first option allows you to have PiMover II sort your file listing by Name or Size by default. Simply tap the triangle next to the word Name or Size and select your choice.
Enable Low Battery Checking will cause PiMover II to check your battery level before performing a file operation such as moving or copying a file. If the battery level is too low it will not allow the operation until the batteries are replaced or recharged.
Enable Sound Notification will cause PiMover II to emit a sound after certain operations have been performed, such as moving or copying files.
Confirm on Overwriting Files will cause PiMover II to ask your permission before overwriting a file in RAM or on the memory card if it already exists. Unchecking this option will allow PiMover II to overwrite the file(s) without prompting you at all.
Default button, when tapped, will return the preferences to their default values.
Tap OK or Cancel when you are finished with your settings to return to the main PiMover II screen.
|
App View mode: PiMover II allows you to view your files in two distinct and different ways. The first view is File View mode and is what PiMover II uses by default. However, we can switch to App View mode by tapping the menu icon of your graffiti area and choosing App View mode from the Options menu.
|
The App View mode allows you to view any file(s) and see what program they are associated with when in either RAM or Card view. Applications, or "launchable" programs, are listed in alphabetical order and are not indented. Other files are listed directly below and slightly indented from the program files. Any file that is associated with an Application will be listed directly below that Application. This allows you to view or find any files that belong to, or are associated with, a specific program on your PDA. In the image shown here, WordSmith is the Application, and the indented files below WordSmith all belong to or are associated with WordSmith.
Any items listed with a small circle with a slash through it are files or Applications that are stored in Flash ROM or can not be deleted from your PDA.
In App View mode you will not have a Move/Copy/Delete menu when you tap the name of a file. Instead, tapping the name of a file in App View mode will simply select that file.
Tapping the Move or Copy buttons after selecting a file (or files) in App View mode will copy or move those files into the most recently opened folder in Card View automatically. If you want to move a file into a specific folder from RAM, you must open that folder in Card View first, then select your files in RAM View and tap the Copy or Move buttons.
Selecting an Application file in App View mode will not automatically select all the files directly beneath it. Instead, you must place a checkmark next to each file under the Application that you want to move, copy or delete.
|
File View mode: You can return to File View mode at any time by tapping the menu icon of your graffiti area and choosing File View mode from the Options menu.
File View Mode simply lists all available files or directories found within RAM or on your memory card. The files are listed alphabetically by default. Some files will have icons matching the Applications they belong to, such as CSpotRun or PiMover II. Files without available icons are listed with a small PDA icon next to them.
|
Tools: PiMover II has a number of Tools available to work with RAM and Memory Card information. The options available are different in both App View mode and File View mode. The image here shows the Tools menu in App View mode. The same options are available in File View mode plus two extras.
|
Here we see the Tools menu in File View mode. As you can see, the main four options from App View mode are still available, plus a few extra. If you do not see the options pictured here, make sure you are in File View mode and not App View mode.
The first two options, Select All and Unselect All will select or unselect all of the available files and directories.
|
Create Directory: The third option available in the Tools menu is Create Directory. This option allows you to create a new, empty directory within the currently opened directory in Card View. Simply enter the name of your new directory when prompted and tap the OK button.
Choosing Create Directory while in RAM View will create your new directory in the most recently opened directory on your memory card and not in RAM. The Palm OS is unable to create directories in RAM.
|
Card Tools: The fourth option available in the Tools menu is Card Tools. Selecting this option in either Card View or RAM view will allow you to Format or Rename any memory card available. Select the appropriate memory card (if more than one is available) by tapping the small triangle next to the card name.
To Format the memory card, tap the Format button. You will be asked if you are sure you want to format the card. All data on the card will be lost after formatting!.
To Rename the memory card, simply enter the new card name in the space provided, then tap the Rename button. A confirmation message will appear when finished.
Tapping the Cancel button will return you to the PiMover II screen without any changes to your card.
|
Media Information: The fifth option available in the Tools menu is Media Information. This option will display the Memory (Total, Used and Free memory available) and Media (memory card or RAM) Information in a single screen. If you are in RAM View the screen will list the Total, Used and Free memory available in RAM. If you are in Card View the screen will list the Total, Used and Free memory available on your memory card.
|
Activate Plug in: The sixth and final option available in the Tools menu is Activate Plug in. PiMover II allows the addition of Plugins that enhance the program's abilities. Any Plugin files designed for PiMover II that are installed to RAM will appear in this Plug In screen. Placing a checkmark next to the name of the Plugin will activate that specific Plugin within PiMover II. Unchecking any listed Plugin will deactivate that specific Plugin within PiMover II. Tap the OK button when finished to return to the main screen.
|
PiRun: PiMover II includes the free PiRun Plugin if it is installed along with the PiMover II program. Activate it by placing a checkmark next to the name in the Activate Plug in screen.
This Plugin allows you to run any "launchable" program that is stored in RAM from within the PiMover II program. With the PiRun Plugin activated, simply tap the file icon or name of any program file in RAM and a small menu will appear. At the bottom of this menu choose PiRun and the selected program will automatically start on your PDA.
Note: This Plugin currently does not work in Card View, and allows you to run only programs that are stored in RAM. Programs stored on your memory card can not be run with this Plugin at this time.
|
PiBeam: PiMover II also includes the free PiBeam Plugin if it is installed along with the PiMover II program. Activate it by placing a checkmark next to the name in the Activate Plug in screen.
This Plugin allows you to beam any file that is stored in RAM or on your memory card from within the PiMover II program. With the PiBeam Plugin activated, simply tap the file icon or name of any visible file and a small menu will appear. At the bottom of this menu choose PiBeam and the selected file will be automatically beamed to any waiting IR device.
Note: You can only beam one file at a time with this Plugin, even if several have been selected within PiMover II.
Note: Any files beamed from your memory card using this Plugin are copied to RAM first, so make sure you have enough available RAM to complete the beam.

PiMover II MiniBrowser: For Developer use only:
Nowadays, many Palm devices have external memory card slot. It is very common that Palm applications should allow users to browse the content on their external memory card. However, it is time consuming to write a file browser for each application that supports a memory card. Our purpose is to provide some file browsing APIs from PiMover II to other developers, so that they can popup the MiniBrowser used within PiMover II with a simple API call. Developers can then save time to work on other parts of their program.
System Requirement:
- Palm OS 4.0 or above
- PiMover II installed
