About Peacemaker

Peacemaker Professional is a cross-platform infrared transfer utility for Pocket PC. Pocket PCs cannot inherentely beam contact information to devices that run other operating systems. With Peacemaker, users may beam their business cards to users running on the different platform, without any added utilities having to be installed on the other end.

Peacemaker integrates itself into the Contacts application of the Pocket PC. There are two menu items that are normally not present on the Tools popup menu: Beam Selected and Card Exchange. Menu items are also in Tasks and Calendar. Finally a shortcut on the Programs menu enables the Notes transfer method.

Business Card Basics

A business card is a special contact, usually for yourself. By setting a certain Contact as your business card, it eases the beaming of that Contact. This is useful as you will normally want to beam your contact information often.

How To Use Peacemaker

Simply select one of the menu items in the Tools menu of the Contacts application. "Beam Selected" will beam the selected item(s), and "Card Exchange" will beam your business card to the other device. In the other PIM applications, the item is titled "Peacemaker", and there is a "Peacemaker" shortcut on the Programs menu which lets you beam Notes or other files.

Press the OK button at the top of the screen to exit Peacemaker once you have transferred everything you wish. You may also check the box labeled "Close when transfer is complete" to close Peacemaker after you have beamed or received a Contact.

Peacemaker's intention is for beaming and receiving contacts from devices running different operating systems. Peacemaker can also be used to beam to and from other Pocket PCs, but this functionality is unsupported (but is supported by the builtin infrared transfer utility that is already bundled with Pocket PCs). Due to the limitations of other devices, certain fields present in the Pocket PC will not be transferred over to the other device. For instance, some devices only store one address block, while Pocket PC can store work and home addresses. If both work and home addresses are present in an entry, Peacemaker will prompt the user as to which address the user would like to beam. The complete list of fields supported in both ways of transfer is: first name, last name, title, company, email, home telephone, fax number, pager number, mobile number, address, city, state, zip code, country, and notes (text, not ink).
