To stop your messenger service program from starting automatically
Your messenger service program starts running whenever you turn on your computer. When you connect to the Internet, the program automatically connects to the appropriate servers and starts providing you with instant messaging service.
- In Outlook Express, on the Tools menu, click your messenger service, and then click Options.
- On the Preferences tab, clear the Run this program when Windows starts check box.
Note
- If you stop your messenger service program from running and connecting automatically, you can start it yourself. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to Communications, and then click your messenger service name. If you are running Windows 2000, Windows Millennium Edition, or Windows XP, click Start, point to Programs or All Programs, and then click your messenger service name.
