Here is an Object Browser of the Control Center (Object Desktop) starting from the right of the screen. WarpCenter's trays (which comes with OS/2 Warp 4) also resembles this functionality. You can add anything you want to that bar, just drag the objects wanted. They will create shadows of the dragged objects and they will act the same as the original folder, except that they will open in browse mode by default.

In the background is Warp 4 Hardware Manager for its PnP support. Warp 4 PnP support is under the user's control and can be easily overridden if necessary. It also does not attempt to auto-detect non-PnP hardware, unless you ask it to. The Hardware Manager is a folder, so now all of your devices are considered as objects in here.
