How its done
Creating and Positioning the Text:
Each character is created one at a time with the text editor. Use the Object Editor to scale each character to precisely 200% of its normal size. You can precisely position each character by approximately placing them with your mouse. Then drag a bounding box arround the entire text. (Hold the mouse button down as you move the cursor.) When you release the cursor button, the bounding box will snap around the selected text. The blue align buttons on the Align Bar will also highlite. Select the 'Align Bottom' button to precisely position them vertically. You can also use the Space Horizontal button to evenly space them. More precise spacing can be achieved by Nudging them into place with the left and right arrow keys on your keyboard. When selecting a character remember to hold the shift key down to select an object that is behind another object.
Creating the Event:
Select the 'M' with your mouse. Press the 'Behaviour' button on the Tools bar. Answer
yes
when asked if you want to create a new event. The event will automatically be assigned the name "Evt1". You can change this to something more descriptive if you wish.
Select the 'Trigger Event' tab. Select the 'Mouse Over' check box.
Select the 'End Event' tab. Select the 'Mouse Leave' check box.
Select the 'Actions' tab. Check the 'Visible' tab under 'When Triggered Active'
Uncheck the 'Visible' tab under 'When Not Active'
Select OK to assign this Event to the 'M' object.
It is not necessary to create a seperate event for each character. A principle feature of IMS is its ability for object to share and change components. This not only simplyfies the creation and editing of commonly used elements, it also substantially reduces the size of your publised files.
Assign the Event to the other Objects:
Select the 'Object Editor' button on the Object Bar.
The Object drop down box should be displaying the name of the 'M' object. You can change this to something more descriptive if you wish. Under the 'Event' drop down box, the name of the Event you just created should be displayed. Select the next Object from the Object drop down box. The Object will be displayed in the view box. If the 'Event' box display's "*****" it means that no event is assigned to this object.
Select the Event you created from the Event drop down box to assign it to this object.
Repeat this process for each Object in the name list.
Testing and Modifying:
To test your project, select the preview button and move your mouse over each character.
Modyfing your Event is simple. Select the Behaviour Button and say No if it asks to create a new event. Select the event from the drop down box if it is not already displayed. You can add multiple Triggers if you wish. Try including Time Triggers to activate and deactivate the event. Since all your objects have already been assigned this Event it is not necessary to assign it again. If you do, notice when you first play your project every character will become visible at the same time but after you have moved the mouse over some of the characters, their timing will be based on the last trigger causing them to flash at different times than the other characters.
When assigning multiple triggers to an Event, notice that you can check the 'AND all triggers" box. When checked, all events must be true in order to trigger the event.
