Enhanced File Get and Check-out
Visual SourceSafe (VSS) 6.0 is easier to use and faster than ever since access capabilites are now up to 10 times faster over RAS (remote access services), and up to twice as fast over a LAN (local area network).
Year 2000 Date Formats
Visual SourceSafe 6.0 supports Year 2000 date formats in all report and dialog boxes.
New Web Capabilities
Visual SourceSafe 6.0 now provides full automatic link checking as well as site map generation and the ability to publish content directly to a Web server.
Label Promotion
Visual SourceSafe 6.0 allows you to promote, or add, a file to an existing label.
Expanded OLE Automation
The Visual SourceSafe 6.0 OLE Automation interface has been expanded to provide numerous administrative functions. These new methods and properties automate functions that a Visual SourceSafe 6.0 database administrator might use, such as adding users and setting project security.
HTML Help
Visual SourceSafe 6.0 now allows online help to be viewed directly from a Web browser.
Compare Differences in Multiple Projects
This feature in Visual SourceSafe allows you to compare differences in a project against another project, or in two different folders.
Multiple Databases
In Visual SourceSafe 6.0 multiple databases can easily be created using the administrator user. You can create a VSS database in any location by using the command located at, Tools\Create Database.
Filter History Information
You can now view history of files and projects without having to create labels.
Check External Hyperlinks
In Visual SourceSafe 6.0, Check Hyperlinks now works on external hyperlinks, or jumps outside of the project, as well as internal hyperlinks enabling jumps within the project.
Move Files
When you move a file, Visual SourceSafe 6.0 automatically shares the file to a new project then deletes it from the original project. The new project file now appears as 'shared'.
Deploy Individual Files from the VSS Explorer
Using the GUI, you can deploy a file as well as an individual folder.
Edit/View Dialog
This feature provides the ability to tell VSS what editor you would like to use when you edit or view a file in VSS.
Create Desktop Shortcuts to VSS Databases
Visual SourceSafe 6.0 allows you to create a shortcut (from VSS Explorer) on your desktop that opens a specified VSS database in the project you specify.
