4/28/99 Final Draft 5.0 in BETA!

FINALLY, Final Draft 5.0's beta is available on its beta page for testing on both the Windows and Macintosh platform. Improvements are said to include contextual menu support, better smart typing, stationaries, text-to-speech, active spellchecking, e-mail support, tips of the day, customizeable toolbars, etc. Remember, this is an unstable beta release so use only for non-mission critical applications. Be sure to mail "reports, comments, and suggestions" to macbeta@finaldraft.com and winbeta@finaldraft.com respective to the version you're trying.

In related news, the KD screenwriting system is at 3.0, and ScriptThing is at 1.7.2.

There are always other places for free screenwriting software as well.

4/27/99 John Williams track online!

As reported by Slashdot, One of the tracks from the new Star Wars trailer is floating around on the Internet in .mp3 format. Apparently it was removed by the RIAA. Check your local newsgroup or look for mirrors...

4/12/99 ScriptThing updated AGAIN!!!

Version 1.6 is now available here, they're off and runnin'. Final Draft, where are you?!! (well, in case anyone's interested, they're having a sale until the end of the month.)

3/16/99 ScriptThing updated again

Version 1.4 is now available here, a scant eleven days since version 1.3.1 was released. That reminds me, it's been quite a while since an update to Final Draft. I fondly recall the days when they were doing updates all the time. Hopefully we'll see version 5.0 of their product (which I was briefly briefed on at last year's ShowBiz Expo) soon!

3/13/99 Eyes Wide Shut teaser released!

Countingdown.com is reporting that a clip from the trailer shown at ShoWest is finally on the Internet. You can find links to it in MPEG and RealVideo format here. (Warning: it's semi-explicit). Also, they've got a link or two about the notorious Harvey Keitel EWS rumor which has persisted now for about a year...

The full 24.8 MB, wide-screen version is called menace_480.mov

Post your thoughts...

3/7/99 Stanley Kubrick is dead

This is truly a sad day for film. One of the world's greatest, most unique, and most reclusive directors, Stanley Kubrick, has passed on. For more, see the AP story. Among his masterpeices: Paths of Glory, Spartacus, 2001, Dr. Strangelove, Lolita, A ClockWork Orange, The Shining, Full Metal Jacket, etc. etc. What will happen to Eyes Wide Shut is anyone's guess, but somehow I suspect we'll see it as a Best Picture nomination a year from now...

3/5/99 ScriptThing update for Macintosh

Version 1.3.1 is here. I also recommend Final Draft which is another great cross-platform scriptwriting package. And don't forget, there are some free templates too.

2/28/99 Message Base Returns!

Well the bulletin board was down for three days, but not to worry, it has returned and is better than ever. New features include an improved search engine and automatic URL-linking. Still to do: Fix the expanding message button. Stay tuned!
