The village of Benecko is situated in Semily
District in Western Krkonose (Giant Mountains).
The advantage of the place in comparison with the valley resorts like Harrachov,
Spindleruv Mlyn or Pec pod Snezkou is a top hill position of the resort.
South-west orientation brings the place enough sunshine, west winds prevent the air pollution. Meadows, woods and slopes offer excellent conditions for skiing, hiking and forest fruit picking. The village is situated by two thirds in the 3rd (the most protected) zone of Krkonose National Park. The residential area is in the zone of less protective importance. Benecko is considered to be a good starting point for mountain hiking to the tops of Krkonose Mountains. Visitors can admire long views from the hill of Zaly and wander about interesting places of Benecko, Horni Stepanice, Dolni Stepanice or Mrklov. Only 2 km far from the municipal district is the town of Jilemnice, 5 km far is the town of Vrchlabi.
The contemporary municipality of Benecko occupies
an area of 1652 ha. It consists of four parts (formerly independent villages)
Horni Stepanice, Dolni Stepanice, Benecko and Mrklov.
These have been united into one village in 1960.
