IronFTP

What does IronFTP do?

The IronFTP system is a File Transfer Protocol (FTP) client application with an integrated security encryption facility for transmitting files over the Internet.

This allows the user to establish a connection with a host, and exchange files between local and remote systems.

The system uses DES, Triple DES,IDEA and the ELLIPT or RSA data encryption algorithms. It also provides support for the firewalls.

IronFTP is an FTP client application for Windows Sockets, and has been designed to make full use of Windows features and capabilities. It is also both easy to understand and use.

IronFTP is a Windows-based Internet FTP client with 16 or 32 bit applications that allows new users to utilize the capabilities of FTP services without having to deal with the details of the protocol itself. It simplifies FTP by providing a user-friendly graphical interface, instead of a complicated command-line utility. One of the features of IronFTP is its ability to gather all the available information about files and directory structures of a remote system, and then present this information in an easy-to-use, file-manager-like browsing screen. You can get connected to pre-defined sites by simply double-clicking on their name, in the site manager dialog box, and then retrieving any number of selected files by clicking on a single icon. The strongest feature of IronFTP is its ability to encrypt and decrypt data sent by using the FTP process. The FTP client application is both easy to manipulate and secure. Online help has been prepared on a hypertext basis, so a user can click on any part of a given window to get information about it.

Important information about IronFTP key exchange algorithms

The European version of IronFTP contains two asymmetrical algorithms, RSA and ELLIPT. ELLIPT is based on the principal of encryption with elliptic curves. The ELLIPT algorithm hence belongs to a group of algorithms developed with the latest and most advanced encryption technology available.

ELLIPT is also stronger than the RSA algorithm when making a bit for bit key length comparison. ELLIPTIC keys have a fixed length of 173 bites, and offer levels of security on a par with RSA keys of 1200 bit key length. Users of the European version IronFTP can choose between the ELLIPT and RSA algorithms for public key generation, encryption, and key exchange.

Although the US version of IronFTP does not offer the RSA algorithm, we recommend that users make use of the ELLIPT algorithm wherever possible, as it is the algorithm for the future.

IronFTP is compatible with the following operating systems:
Windows 3.xx, Windows 95, Windows NT
