FRANK GEHRY
DESIGN AND ARCHITECTURE

Frank Gehry is one of the most important architects of our time, the creator of 'deconstructive architecture', and one of the most inspirational figures of postmodernist culture. In his work one can find many outstanding pieces, as well as public buildings and private homes. The exhibition at the Centre for Contemporary Art will include the complete documentation of four of his architectural projects (in Paris, Bilbao, Prague and Weil am Rhein).

Gehry also designs furniture; the exhibtion will include a complex presentation of more than thirty objects from the seventies and nineties, such as chairs made of corrugated cardboard and laminated maple, as well as his "Fish Lamp" and "Snake Lamp".
The exhibition has been organised in co-operation with the Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein, one of the most important design museum's in the world, which was designed by Frank Gehry. The exhibition at the Centre for Contemporary Art will open in January, and will travel to Manes Gallery, Prague in Spring, where shortly The Dance Theatre designed by Gehry is to open.
The Centre for Contemporary Art is preparing a small catalogue to go with the exhibition, which will include texts on Frank Gehry in Polish and English by the curator of the Vitra Museum, Evi Ahrendt. A series of educational workshops for the public connected and intersted in the subject of the exhibition is also being organised.

Frank Gehry has already exhibited in Poland, five years ago; the January exhibition
is expected to be a continuation of that earlier experience and is eagerly anticipated
not only by designers and architects, but by the public at large.
