.
The works presented in Ujazdowski Castle have been produced during the last two years.
What they have in common is the "market aesthetics" - they all look like items, which can
be bought in a shop or drugstore, or like the devices in a fitness club or a beauty saloon.
They are all called 'Correcting Devices'.
..
Libera's 'Correcting Devices' touch on the area of a child's upbringing and the human body.
They are, as the artist said in an interview, "works on/with correcting devices and instruments,
which already exist, but on the other hand - they are suggestions of
transformations of such devices. I mean the devices which we use in our culture to exercise
and determine behaviour patterns necessary for individuals to live in society."
...
The present works by Libera are influenced by commercial standardisation and refer to patterns
of behaviour also set by the media and advertising. These products function similarly to a
computer virus. After recognising a particular system the virus produc
es copies, but such copies are polluted with particular features, which are emphasised and
'projected' as exaggerated characteristics within the original system.
....
The press often calls Libera a 'controversial artist', a creator of controversial works.
Are the works shown in this exhibition revolting or shocking? Perhaps, but the world we
have created and reside in is also disgusting.
