SPANISH WARGASM DEMO - README v.1.5 25/7/98 INSTALLATION ------------ -Copy the Wargasm directory from the CD onto the hard drive of the demo machine. -Run the file 40comupd.exe from the Wargasm directory. -Double click on the file Wargasm.reg in the Wargasm directory. This stores the resolution settings for the game. -Copy the Wargasm shortcut from the CD onto the desktop. The shortcut should now run the game when clicked on. The demo campaign can be accessed as follows. Upon reaching the main GUI click the campaign button. From the regions on the map select Russia. Select a battlefield by clicking on a red icon on the map. Later icons can be accessed by right clicking on previous nodes until the desired node turns red. Click ACCEPT to enter the dropship loadout GUI. Click the DEFAULT button to load with a default set of vehicles. (If other vehicles are required click on the icons below the circular dropship window. They can be removed by clicking on them in the dropship.) Click >>. The mission should now load. Other environment types can be looked at by selecting any of the blue icons on the campaign map. If the game screen remains black, or an error message is received relating to D3D or memory try running the didcfg.exe and lowering the resolution, and/or unchecking the 'window' box in the resolution settings. In order to change resolution run the didcfg.exe in the Wargasm directory and alter the resolution in the mode box to the top right of the video config that appears, making sure that the word Wargasm appears in the application box to the bottom left. CONTROLLING VEHICLES -------------------- All vehicles can be controlled in a similar manner. Pushing forward on the joystick will increase the power in the forward direction. Pulling back will increase the power in the reverse direction and left and right will turn the vehicle left and right. For the helicopter only, the keys A and Z gain and lose the helicopter altitude. The turrets of tracked vehicles and the gun/upper torso of the troop can be moved by holding shift and moving the joystick. On Microsoft Sidewinder/force-feedback joysticks button one (the long thin one on the top) can be used as an alternative to the shift key. These joysticks also have a 'twist' feature which can be used to turn the turret/troop's torso. While it is possible to control the vehicles using the cursor keys it is recommended that a joystick is used as this gives a more precise level of control. To turn the turret or elevate the gun with a joystick, hold down button one and move the stick. If the joystick has a hat control, it can be used to select a different view. Button two doubles as a brake and button three resets the turret. The cursor keys can be used to control the direction of the tank hull. If SHIFT is held down the cursor keys will control the direction of the turret and the barrel elevation. The CRTL key will activate the tank's brakes. To make driving and shooting easier the turret can be re-aligned to the hull by pressing the HOME key, where you point the hull is now where you will shoot. If driving the tank on the sight view, a useful technique for steering and traversing the gun at the same time is to activate turret stabilization using the X key. In this mode, the turret remains pointing in the same direction while the hull is steered. The turret may be moved as normal, but stays put when left alone. KNOWN PROBLEMS -------------- There are the following known problems with the current version of the game. -Force feedback is not working in this version, except when firing. -When the player takes control of a previously AI-controlled ground vehicle there will be a 'jump'as the suspension modelling kicks in. This is less noticeable when the vehicle is commandeered from the tactical map. -Vehicles which the player has no direct control over do not exhibit the full suspension driving model. This is to reduce processor overhead. THE MATROX MGAG200 ------------------ If the program is to be demonstrated on this graphics card the file didcfg.exe located in the Wargasm directory must be run and the texture options changed from 4-bit palettised to one of the other options.
