The rise of digital photography has given us a lot: instant quality photos at a low price, an end to the hassle of sending your films off to be developed, and easy editing later. But the technology has taken something away, too. Most photos now exist only in a virtual sense, to be watched on a screen, and simple pleasures like reminiscing with friends and family around a photo album seem to be a thing of the past. If you think that's a shame, then the Fotoinsight Designer could be for you.
The program is part of a commercial service that will take your digital images and turn them into, well, just about anything you can imagine. A photo canvas, mug, greetings card, calendar, mouse mat, jigsaw, t-shirt (human-sized or mini version on a teddy bear), cushion cover, shopping bag - the list goes on. Every product has multiple other design options (you get seven styles of calendar to choose from, five different mugs) so you're sure to find something you want.
Perhaps most impressive are the photo books, professionally printed and bound creations that would make a great souvenir of a family occasion like a wedding. The designer ensures there's very little to do, just load your images and it'll lay them out, automatically fixing problems like red-eye for the best possible results.
Prices are reasonable, too. A 26-page 21 x 28 cm bound and printed hardback photo book will cost you £19.99, for instance. A 12" x 8" poster of your best photo cost from 99p each, and prints will cost you from 10p each. Well worth a look.
